Coping With Pain In Throat: Household Remedies

Coping With Pain Throat: Household Remedies

Winter brings many things. Seasonal food, good will, sometimes snow, but always cold weather and flu symptoms.

That’s right. It’s that time of year again where flu sickness and colds spike, and many of us have to endure headaches, coughs, and blocked or runny noses as we get on with our everyday lives.

Symptoms can vary, but one of the common early signs of a bout of cold or flu is a sore throat. Sure enough, you probably won’t need to buy prescription pain relief online to combat the mild pain this brings, but that doesn’t make sore throats any more pleasant.

There are measures you can take to stop your condition (or potential condition) from escalating. Soothing your throat pain will go a long way to nipping any potential colds or infections in the bud.

So, without further ado, here are some simple things you can do when at home to help make your throat pain go away:

Smooth Foods

Sharp, gritty foods can scrape against the internal tissues in your throat and cause further aggravation. Crisps and dry toast are a no-no. Give yourself an easy ride, and try to eat meals which are smooth on the gullet. Soup is a good choice, as is porridge – both of these are also excellent at getting heat into your body and fighting off colds.

Tea

Stay away from fizzy caffeinated drinks, as these can exacerbate a sore throat. Coffee can also weaken the immune system and make it harder for your body to combat infection. Stick to caffeine-free teas, such as peppermint or lemon and ginger if you want to do your airways a favour.

Showering

We all love a good bath, but when your sinuses are irritated, allowing shower jets to run over them can make a big difference, and decrease feelings of pain. So ditch the rubber ducky for now – opt for a shower instead.

Warm Bed

You spend a lot of time in bed, so it’s important to ensure that yours is warm. Spending the entire night unwittingly shivering will do nothing to help you shrug off your sore throat.
